Two records, one people: the ships that came, and the nations already here.

This site sets the numbers of the transatlantic slave trade beside the Indigenous nations who held this land before first European contact. Read them together and a harder question surfaces: how many people filed away as “African American” carry Indigenous ancestry that the record keepers never wrote down. Follow the pins, the crossings and the names — then decide what the label left out.
